Swim Classes and Lessons

The Springfield JCC offers American Red Cross Swim lessons. Below is a list of classes available based on your child's ability.

Private Swim Lessons
One 30-minute session - $26 (JCC member) / $41 (general public)
Five 30-minute sessions - $125 (JCC member)
Ten 30-minute sessions - $240 (JCC member)
One semi-private 30-minute session - $41 (JCC member)
Five semi-private 30-minute sessions - $200 (JCC member)
Ten semi-private 30-minute sessions - $390 (JCC member)



Super Tot Gym and Swim
3-5 years
Tuesdays 1:30 – 3:15PM
Check back in the fall for dates and prices.


Taught by Bethany the pre-school PE teacher, the class will consist of forty-five minutes of physical education activities emphasizing gross motor skills and thirty minutes of pool activities including swim instruction and games.

Children learn to be comfortable in the water and will learn to swim with a bubble and/or cheerios.
Parents must participate in this class.



Beginner Swim Lessons
for ages 3+
Level One – This class is designed to help your child become acclimated to the water. Participants learn
how to blow bubbles and go underwater. They also experience what it is like to swim with no flotation aid
for part of the class.

Level Two – In level two, children learn to swim on their own for short distances and improve other skills
such as breathing and swimming underwater.

Level Three – Children begin to learn formal strokes in level three such as freestyle, backstroke and
breaststroke. Survival skills are introduced such as treading water and survival floating. There is also an increased focus on endurance and being able to swim long distances without stopping.
Participants also learn how to dive.

Advanced Swim Lessons
Level Four – This class introduces breaststroke, rotary kick, sculling and survival float. The focus will
be increased proficiency and endurance of front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, elementary backstroke,
breaststroke and treading water.

Level Five - Level five introduces flip turns, sidestroke, survival swimming, long shallow dives and tuck and pike surface dives. The focus will be continued proficiency, stroke refinement and endurance of front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke.

Level Six – At this level the intent is to refine strokes so swimmers swim them with ease. The following
competitive strokes will be worked on to increase efficiency and endurance: freestyle
(crawl stroke), back crawl, breaststroke and butterfly.
