Teen Programs and JCC Maccabi ExperienceKaplan SAT SATs are extremely important for all high school seniors who are thinking of attending college. Make the most of your SATs and get properly trained with the Kaplan SAT prep course. Classes are offered throughout the year. Give yourself the competitive edge needed to get accepted into the college of your choice. JCC Members receive a discount on the courses offered at the JCC! Call 1-800-KAP-TEST for more information. Theatrix - Drama Club for 8th grade - High School Amy Kimball is advising the Theatrix Drama Club. Participants can be performers, costume and tech directors, stage managers and more. Theatrix runs multiple performance and theater based activities throughout the year. Theatrix will work with a variety of theatrical professionals depending on the show - musical, play, revue, etc Last year, Theatrix had 35 participants from over 10 different schools who developed long lasting friendships. Come see what it is about and decide if it is the right drama club for you. SNL Middle school nights offer a dance, open gym and open game room from 7-10 pm all in a fun, safe, supervised setting. Check back in the Fall for new SNL dates. $8 admission, $5 reduced JCC member fee Participants can come hang out with 150-200 other tweens and have fun while respecting the JCC facility, staff and each other. Please encourage your tweens to have fun while making sure they are making proud choices and treating everyone nicely. Be proactive - Be a buddy, Not a bully! Note that dates are subject to change, so check in with the website or contact the teen director, Amy at akimball@springfieldjcc.org or on facebook or at 739-4715 ext 322. DJST Jr for 6th and 7th graders DJST Jr will have mentors from DJST helping them with a community service project once a month and a recreational event once a month. This youth group is open to all interested 6th and 7th graders. The first event is Sunday, October 28th - the Rays of Hope Walk. If you have a youth in 6th or 7th grade, please contact Amy to find out how to get them registered for this full year program. $100 yearly fee, $75 discounted member fee. Don’t Just Sit There Don’t Just Sit There is a community service social action group for 8th grade - high school students. We meet once a month to look at the important issues facing our community and the world. DJST’s Adopt a Family project was successful last year as they were able to help 14 specific families through difficult times. DJST volunteers for soup kitchens at least once a month. DJST purchased food and raised awareness for Rachel’s Table helping with their shopping tournament. DJST had over 90 members last year from a variety of middle and high schools. Don’t miss out - get involved. You do not have to participate in every event. Some events need a few volunteers while others, such as, the Walks for causes, Adopt a Family Project and the Annual JCC Carnival need lots of volunteers. Join this year and help DJST participate in a variety of community service projects. We would like to start a mentoring program this year by starting a DJST JR group. DJST members donate $25 as a donation to help fund the charitable projects throughout the year. Come help DJST with its annual Adopt a Family project.
