After-School Learning Leader

After-School Learning Leader
Department: Youth and Family Engagement
Status: Part-time, Monday-Friday, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm
Reports to: Elementary Director
Salary: $13.50 – $15.00 per hour

Position Summary
Learning Leaders work directly with elementary students to provide a fun, safe, and engaging
after-school program while serving as a positive adult role model.
From September-June, you will help guide students in grades K-5 through activities that are
grounded in the Massachusetts state curriculum standards. You will help them to grow and
develop with an eye towards social-emotional learning. What better way to learn, grow, have
fun, and make an impact?

Essential Functions

● Implement a variety of enrichment and recreational programming for students.
● Supervise children during all activities (e.g., classroom, gym, playground, etc.).
● Apply behavior management techniques in an age-appropriate manner.
● Assist with attendance logs, student records, and other reporting, as required.
● Maintain an open and positive communication with parents.

Qualifications
● High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
● Age 18 or older
● Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity with others.

● Demonstrate reliability and punctuality
● Competent in speaking and writing the English language
● At least six months experience working with youth in a classroom, after school or
recreation environment
● Ability to multitask effectively under pressure
● Must pass criminal background check and fingerprinting
● First Aid and CPR certification
Working Conditions:
● Ability to sit/stand for long periods
● Ability to lift/carry 45 lbs.

Infant/Toddler and Preschool Teachers

Early Learning Center at the Springfield JCC is now hiring full-time lead teachers in our infant,
toddler, and preschool programs. Our classrooms are developmentally appropriate learning
environments that align with the National Association for the Education of Young Children
standards and the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations.

● Using knowledge of child development and learning in context to create a caring
community of learners
● Engaging in reciprocal partnerships with families and fostering community connections
● Observing, documenting, and assessing children’s development and learning
● Teaching to enhance each child’s development and learning
● Understanding and using content areas to plan and implement an engaging curriculum
designed to meet goals that are important and meaningful for children, families, and the
community in the present as well as the future
● Making decisions as an early childhood professional that exemplify ethical, intentional,
and reflective judgment and practice.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Associates, Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education
○ Also, at least nine months of work experience in related age groups
○ For Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher, a course in Infant-Toddler Care is required
OR
● Associates, Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Related Field plus 12 ECE credits
○ Also, at least nine months of work experience in related age groups
○ For Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher, a course in Infant-Toddler Care is required
● Current CPR/First Aid certification or completion upon hire
● Current EEC Professional Qualifications Registry (PQR)
● Follow all EEC Minimum Health Requirements for Educators

Salary:
$31,000-$44,000 ($15.00-$21.00/per hour)

Fitness Attendant

Position: Fitness Attendant
Status: Part-time shifts vary between: Monday-Friday 5:15am-7:45pm, Sat/Sun 6:45am-3:15pm.
Reports to: Health and Wellness Director
Salary: $13.50-$15.00 per hour

Overview of the Role:
Responsible for member service, standard operations, enforcing policies, monitoring, and cleanliness of the Fitness Center including equipment and laundry.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
 Assist in the supervision and safe operation of the fitness center
 Adhere to emergency action plan
 Greet all members and guests and maintain a friendly and professional demeanor at all times
 Enforce policies and rules with tact and diplomacy
 Perform daily fitness center and equipment cleaning and report any repair related issues as
needed
 Maintain towel supply including operating washer and dryer, folding towels, and restocking
shelves.
 Other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Director to ensure the safety of members
and successful operation of the Fitness Center

Skills:
 Willingness to carry out the mission of the Springfield Jewish Community Center
 Ability to work independently, utilize initiative, and poses strong customer service
 Ability to be able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situation
 Ability to operate or learn to operate all fitness equipment
 Knowledgeable and interested in Health and Wellness
Equipment: Various forms of strength and cardiovascular equipment, washer & dryer, supplies for
cleaning and laundry

Safety Requirements:
Our organization is serious about Safety! During the COVID-19 pandemic we implemented
several additional safety protocols, including PPE, cleaning supplies, cleaning schedules, and
training.
 CPR & AED certified a plus
 First Aid certified a plus

Prior Experience:
 Wellness experience strongly preferred but not required. College coursework in health and
sport sciences a plus. Certification as a trainer or group fitness instructor a plus

Education:
 High school diploma or GED required. College preferred.

Salary:

$26,000-$31,000 (starting at $14 per hour)

Van Driver

Position: School Van Driver 

Status: Part-time, M-F 1:00pm-4:00pm 

Reports to: Youth and Family Director

 

About the Springfield JCC:

The Springfield Jewish Community Center is a welcoming and vibrant presence in western Massachusetts on the Longmeadow/Springfield line. The JCC’s 80,000 sq. ft. facility sits on 23 acres of land and includes a premier health, fitness, and aquatics center (including an indoor pool); preschool; and grounds including three playgrounds, ropes course, basketball and tennis courts, and sports fields. The JCC offers programs for all ages, including preschool, youth and teen programs, adult programs, senior adult life programs, and is home to the JCC Health & Fitness Center.

Overview of the Role:

Be an integral part of a mission-drive team while transporting students from Springfield area schools to our after-school enrichment program at the Springfield JCC campus.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Safely operate a motor vehicle, in accordance with all State and Federal traffic laws, while driving school-aged children
    • Safely assist students as needed to include helping them enter and exit the vehicle, using the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts, and safely securing them in car seats and booster seats
    • Communicate effectively and clearly with students, parents, teachers, and staff
    • Effective communication skills while using two-way radio system
    • Monitor and insure upkeep and maintenance of van operations including the cleanliness of both the inside and exterior of van
    • Keep accurate records of van trips, schedules and riders throughout the week using excel spreadsheets on the computer
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Age 21+ & have had a driver’s license for 3+ consecutive years
