Facilities Manager

Position: Facilities Manager

Status: Full-time, exempt

Supervisor: CEO

The Springfield JCC is a Jewish Community Center with a facility that includes a premier health, fitness, and aquatics center (including an indoor pool); preschool; and grounds including three playgrounds, ropes course, basketball and tennis courts, and sports fields. The facility is over 80,000 sq/ft.

The Facilities Manager will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating property management activities for the JCC as follows:


  • Oversee the management of the physical complex including the services provided by several outside contractors and vendors (Landscaping, HVAC, Utilities)
  • Supervise janitorial staff to ensure the facility remains clean at all time
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors to ensure all systems are functioning properly including: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, machinery, mechanical, pool, steam, sauna, fire equipment and building utilities on the campus
  • Oversee activities of contractors, vendor personnel and suppliers; monitor contracts for compliance and control costs; perform quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards
  • Solicit bids for new contractors, vendor and supplier relationships and participate in the selection process
  • Track, review and approve invoices for payments
  • Perform site safety inspections on a regular basis, making recommendations wherever appropriate; ensure insurance/risk management compliance and adherence to federal, state, OSHA, and other regulaulations
  • Ensure site safety, security and cleanliness
  • Oversee the tracking of equipment under warranty and negotiate service contracts with equipment suppliers, anticipating upgrades and repairs as necessary
  • Prepare budgets for upgrades, repairs, replacements, and maintenance as necessary
  • Ensure preventative maintenance plan is created and carried out appropriately
  • Handle all vehicle maintenance and registration
  • Make recommendations to the CEO and CFO surrounding needs within facilities and maintenance
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise on site and handle appropriately
  • Coordinate and manage special projects (capital and other improvements) ensuring price competitiveness
  • Supervise JCC maintenance staff to ensure the facility is in good repair at all times
  • Set performance objectives, track performance ensuring efficient and timely execution and monitor cost efficiently


  • Knowledge of property management principles, procedures, and standard
  • Ability to work effectively with several constituencies within Campus environment
  • Ability to manage financial budgets relating to the facilities in partnership with the CFO
  • Knowledge of contracts and familiarity with negotiating contracts: knowledge of contract documents and specifications
  • 3+ years in Facilities Management (Construction/Engineering)
  • 3+ years direct supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with local, state, federal, and other regulations
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Ability to coordinate and supervise independent contractors
  • Ability to develop bid specifications and evaluate bids from contractors
  • Skills in organization and prioritization
  • Must possess computer skills (MSWord, MSExcel, MSOutlook)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Youth and Family Director

Position: Youth and Family Director

Status: Full-time, exempt

Supervisor: COO

Direct Reports: Camp Director, Elementary Programs Director, Teen Coordinator, Youth Theater contract employees

The Youth and Family Director is responsible for overseeing youth-related and Jewish family programming, initiatives, and projects. This person creates community outreach and engagement opportunities, plans and implements Jewish holiday programming, and supports the growth of various youth and teen programs. The Youth and Family Director works collaboratively with other departments to create and deliver high-quality programs that will make an impact in both the Jewish community and the community at large.

All employees of the Springfield JCC are responsible for creating relationships with the members, to add value to their membership, and to enhance their sense of belonging with the JCC community.


Management and Supervision

  • Directly supervise and support the Camp Director, Elementary Programs Director, Teen Coordinator, and J-Theater contract workers
  • Ensure that all department staff are oriented and trained appropriately to achieve the highest levels of program delivery and standards
  • Ensure programming within the Youth and Family Department contains relevant, engaging Judaic content
  • Monitor program enrollment and billing with program directors and administrative team
  • Research and support the application process and administration of grants
  • Identify and develop new partnerships and community outreach opportunities that will bring value to the Youth and Family Department
  • Strategize and create marketing materials in partnership with Marketing Director
  • Attend staff and project meetings, as required
  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities, as needed

Summer Camp
Supervise Camp Director in the following:

  • Lead the camp team in designing, delivering, and evaluating camp programs to ensure they meet the needs and interests of campers
  • Oversee daily operation of camp, including administration, camper care, staff supervision, and camp licensing
  • Ensure camp programming contains engaging and relevant Judaic content
  • Develop new and maintain existing camping programs to ensure participation, positive membership growth and sustainability, and add value to JCC membership

Afterschool and Out-of-School (K-5)

  • Support K-5 enrichment programs and outreach with offsite instructors
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of all Vacation Camps
  • Coordinate programming with area public schools
  • Create annual calendars of events to be used agency-wide
  • Provide oversight and assistance with all snow day/out-of-school programs

Supervise Teen Coordinator in the following:

  • Create programming to engage teens at the JCC
  • Serve as a staff person for JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest
  • Ensure the building and maintenance of relationships with other teen-service organizations in the Jewish community and the greater Pioneer Valley community
  • Create casual engagement opportunities and space design to help teens feel welcome

Manage the contract employee who plan and implement the J’s Youth Theater program

  • Ensure creation of production season and calendar for J- Theater
  • Assist in coordinating theater programming staff, including directors, set designers and others
  • Assist in organizing and running front-of-house during performances

Family Programming
Collaborate with JCC staff to:

  • Oversee the JCC’s family engagement programs including the Purim Carnival, Hanukkah Celebration, and annual Touch-A-Truck event
  • Create Jewish holiday displays at JCC building and online
  • Partner with other departments to run additional programs for families
  • Create programming that enhances caregiver-to-caregiver relationships and provides support for families (educational, social and philanthropic opportunities)


  • Strong management skills, including the ability to inspire, train, and lead staff members
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills; customer-service orientation with specific strength in diplomacy and discretion strongly preferred
  • Understanding of the Jewish community and knowledge of Jewish culture, heritage and traditions
  • Possess knowledge of local and MA state licensing requirements for children’s programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain an environment that fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of children
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Google documents and online calendars
  • Effective interpersonal skills necessary to work with children, teens, parents/guardians, and other staff


  • BA or BS in Education, Child Development, Jewish Communal Service, or related field
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing youth programs. Previous supervisory experience in camp and/or informal Jewish education setting preferred.

Development Associate

Position: Development Associate

The Development Associate is a mid-level position that will manage all aspects of the Springfield JCC’s fundraising efforts. They will assist with donor and grant research, organizing events, management of electronic and manual donor files, writing and editing grant proposals and letters of inquiry, compilation of reports to current funders, creation of acknowledgements, addressing donor inquiries and general correspondence with donors, as well as collaboration with lay leadership around fundraising efforts. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills who has the ability to multi-task and adhere to internal and external deadlines.

The primary responsibilities of the Development Associate include, but are not limited to:


  • Closely assist CEO and volunteers in development strategy for the JCC.
  • Maintain motivation and energy around campaigns for donors and volunteers.
  • Manage all event planning, office administration, and reporting for campaigns and other fundraising
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of new donor cultivation and stewardship strategies and
  • Produce and send donor acknowledgements.
  • Update and manage donor filing systems and databases.
  • Initiate and implement creative and engaging events for donors and volunteers.
  • Support the development of new fundraising programs and initiatives.
  • Support grant research, application and reporting processes.
  • In coordination with the CEO and the Marketing Department, develop new communications strategies –
    ensuring that constituency receives communications as necessary in print and online.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the CEO.


  • Minimum of 3 years experience in non-profit fundraising field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in new project development/leadership.
  • Must be detail oriented.

About the Springfield JCC

The Springfield Jewish Community Center is a welcoming and vibrant presence in western Massachusetts on the Longmeadow/Springfield line. The JCC’s 80,000 sq. ft. facility and sits on 23 acres

Responsible for providing a welcoming customer service experience to members, guests, and staff of the Center by phone, email, and in person. Answers and directs phone calls, processes enrollments and series sales, purchases, membership dues, etc. Assists with the completion of Center mailings and other administrative projects, as assigned.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Customer Service

  • Greets members and guests warmly, directing them to their destination and answering questions
  • Engages with current and prospective members by providing up-to-date information about programs, events, and what’s happening around the center; answering inquiries about programs, services and events through the building
  • Answers membership questions, enters new members, issues scan cards
  • Works with members to establish user confidence with JCC technology or process changes that may occur
  • Responds directly to member feedback with follow through to appropriate departments and additional follow-up to member
  • Answers phones, screens and directs calls, provides information to callers and/or takes and relays messages, when appropriate
  • Processes enrollments and POS sales, takes payments, and issues refunds via established protocols
  • Maintains accurate cash drawer, reconciling payments, and cash at the end of shift.
  • Consistently updating Invoice reprints

Mail – Incoming and Outgoing

  • Distributes incoming mail and packages. Meters outgoing mail
  • Completes mailings, including folding, labeling, tabbing and sorting, and collating, as assigned
  • Manages and coordinates bulk mailings


  • Manages and coordinates room reservations for department and programmatic needs
  • Manages and coordinates rentals as needed
  • Acts as point of contact for facility maintenance requests and disseminates to Facilities Department


  • College Degree Required
  • 3+ years customer service experience, preferable in an office environment
  • Excellent competency in the English language
  • Ability to multi-task effectively under pressure
  • Ability to manage money, accepts payments, make appropriate change and reconcile at end of shift.

• Plan and implement, with teaching team, a daily curriculum according to developmentally appropriate practices, EEC Guidelines, Judaic curriculum and school values

Camp Counselor (Always Accepting Applications)

Position Summary: 

Summer Camp at the J is an amazing opportunity – and it could change your life!

From June – August, you will help guide a group of campers through our award winning camp with the help of management staff and specialists.  Our campers enjoy the outdoors, swim and visit specialist groups thorough the day.  Counselors will undergo orientation and training to help them learn how to optimize camper experience.  Moreover, summer camp counselors just have fun!  Enjoy time outside and make new friends all while helping to change lives in your community!


Essential Functions:

  • Creates and implements programming for campers with help from co-counselor
  • Supervisors children as they enjoy camp
  • Mediates conflicts in an age-appropriate manner
  • Maintains an open and positive communication with parents.  


  • Must be 16+ years old and able to pass a background check.
  • The Counselor will lead the camp group in all activities and assist the Unit Head in planning and executing a diverse and developmentally appropriate schedule including art projects, sports and games, and a variety of other activities.  
  • The Counselor will be responsible for working with the Unit Head and Co-Counselor to maintain positive interactions and communication with camp families.   
  • The Counselor will lead the camp group in transitions and all aspects of group management.  
  • The Counselor reports directly to the Unit Head.  
  • The Counselor is responsible for maintaining the attendance and is responsible for the health and safety of all children in his/her group.
  • The Counselor will fully participate in weekly staff training.
