In-Person Programs

Mondays, April 5 – May 3 (5 weeks)

The Vietnam War was one of the most controversial wars
in American history. The following topics will be covered:
WWII in Southeast Asia, which led to the Cold War; the
fall of French Indonesia and the formation of North and
South Vietnam; the three phases of the Hot War; the
alternatives that existed to the American strategies; and
the draft system and its damage to American society and
morale. The class will conclude with how the withdrawal
of American troops directly let to the fall of Saigon and
how this resulted in a reevaluation of America’s
worldwide military posture. Please watch Ken Burns’ The
Vietnam War (PBS and Netflix) prior to class.
