Join us at at the JCC for our celebration of Hanukkah. This year, Hanukkah begins at sundown on November 28 and runs through December 5. There’s a wide variety of program offerings both old and new, in-person and virtual, for audiences of all ages.

Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah commemorates the Jewish people’s rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem after a successful revolt. As part of the rededication, the Jews needed to light the Temple’s menorah, but they had only enough oil to last one day, and it would take eight days to prepare more oil. Miraculously, the one-day supply of oil lasted for eight days. The miracle of the oil is commemorated with this eight-day candle-lighting holiday.

Hanukkah in the Hay

Sunday, November 21, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM | In-person at the J

Join us for a morning of barnyard fun as we kick off the Hanukkah season and celebrate PJ Library’s new home at the Springfield JCC! Enjoy an outdoor petting zoo, bounce houses, crafts, snacks, and more! Families with children of all ages are invited to join in on the fun.

First Light

Sunday, November 28, 5:00 – 5:45 PM | In-person at the J

Celebrate the light and miracle of the first night of Hanukkah! Join us outdoors for a community candle lighting and singing as we light the largest outdoor menorah in Western Massachusetts.

This program is free and open to the public.

Sunday, December 5, 4:30 – 6:00 PM | In-person at the J

Toast the last night of Hanukkah! Enjoy inventive latkes and toppings, paired with a vodka cocktail. Bring in your own menorah and join us for a community lighting. Enjoy food, friends, drinks, music, and fun at this casual adult gathering.

Cost: $15 JCC members, $20 general public

PROOF OF VACCINATION IS REQUIRED

Hanukkah Concert with Mister G

Monday, December 6, 5:30 – 6:30 PM | Virtual

Join Latin Grammy Award-winning musician Mister G and his band of Jewish music-makers for a family-friendly Hanukkah concert filled with ruach (spirit). Springfield JCC staffer and singer Elise Barber will join Mister G on stage for a special performance! This program is free and open to the public.

Hanukkah Pickleball Tournament

Friday, December 17, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM | In-person at the J

Test your pickleball prowess in our annual Hanukkah Pickleball Tournament! Space is limited. This is a non-sanctioned pickleball tournament. All start times are subject to change and activities might be merged based on event registration. First and second place will be awarded to each bracket.

$10 JCC members, $20 general public
