Climbing in confidence at camp

A camp counselor guides a camper on the low ropes course

One of the most popular activities at camp is our ropes adventure course.

Awesome activities

Our ropes adventure course is accessible to all. Campers don’t have to be strong or athletic to enjoy it, just willing to take on the challenge! It starts with lower - but still exciting - islands, webs, and platforms closer to the ground.

Ellie and Maya, both regular campers, told us that the ropes course is their favorite camp activity because they like being outside in the forest: “I think it’s fun because it’s not that scary!”

Camp skills

While enjoying the ropes course, our campers are building lifelong skills:

☀️ Confidence, resilience and trust: time on the ropes course allows them to build self-esteem in a supportive, safe, and fun environment

☀️ Problem-solving: thinking up creative ways to tackle challenging obstacles, individually and as a team

☀️ Physical and mental wellness: enjoying being active outside in nature has many benefits to health and wellbeing

Meet the team

Evan, who you will likely know as our Wellness and Recreation Director, is also our ropes course supervisor. He is a true outdoor enthusiast! In his free time, he loves nothing more than hiking, kayaking, and camping. In college, he ran the climbing club, and even competed several times in American Ninja Warrior! He knows what it takes and how it feels to tackle a challenge like the ropes course! At camp, Evan will be assisted by trained counselors who will instruct and supervise our campers on the ropes course.

We can’t wait to see you at camp for a summer of fun! ☀️

If you have any questions about summer camp here at the J, please email me, Stephanie Albano, Camp and Elementary Director, at salbano@springfieldjcc.org or call 413-739-4715. I will be happy to help.
