Get ready for summer camp!
To help you prepare your camper(s) for a summer of fun ☀️, we've put together some key points covering what you need to know, bring, and expect.
What to bring
Each day, your camper should arrive with a labeled backpack that includes a reusable water bottle, a nut-free lunch with an ice pack (we don’t have refrigeration or heating), and two nut-free snacks.
Please apply sunscreen before arriving and pack extra so we can help your child reapply it later in the day. Make sure to label your sunscreen – it gets lost!
Campers should also bring a swimsuit and towel in a labeled plastic or wet bag, along with water shoes or flip-flops for pool time.
An extra set of clothes (especially for younger campers) can be a lifesaver, and a hat or sunglasses are great for added sun protection.
What to leave at home
Please do not send your child with toys, electronics, trading cards, money, candy, gum, or anything valuable. We also ask that you avoid sending any food with nuts or in glass containers.
What to expect on day 1
Our friendly staff will be ready to greet you and your camper at drop-off. We’ll introduce them to their counselors and new friends, tour the camp, and jump right into fun activities. The first day is all about making kids feel safe, welcome, and excited for what’s ahead. If your child is nervous, that’s completely normal – and we’re here to support them every step of the way.
At drop-off and pick-up
Please be on time for both drop-off and pick-up. Drop-off is at 9:00 AM and pick-up is at 4:00 PM (unless you have purchased pre- and/or post-camp hours). Please make sure you have your approved pick-up sign on your dashboard or your ID with you for drop-off and pick-up. Please follow all instructions for the car line or walk-in procedures as directed.
Communicating with us
This year, all communication between camp staff and parents / caregivers will be through our new camp app, Remini. If you are not already signed up (through KidSpace, CAP, or ELC), please look out for guidance on how to do this coming soon.
Also good-to-know
☀️ Label absolutely everything - water bottles, towels, clothing, lunchboxes, everything!
☀️ We play outside every day, so campers should wear clothes and closed-toe shoes that they can move and get messy in.
☀️ And after a full day at camp, your child will likely be tired. Extra snacks are always a good idea!
Your stories
Mason A (3rd grade) told us: “I love everything about camp at the J. I’ve been coming to the camp since I was 5 years old, now I’m 9. I know all the counselors and they are so much fun every summer. I even met my best friends at camp. My first time rock climbing, ziplining, and doing archery was at JCC Camp. The pool and all the sports activities are my favorite part. I never want to leave because it’s the best time of the year!”
We can’t wait to see you at camp for a summer of fun! ☀️
If you have any questions about summer camp here at the J, please email me, Stephanie Albano, Camp and Elementary Director, at salbano@springfieldjcc.org or call 413-739-4715. I will be happy to help.
