Our Approach and Goals

At the ELC, we combine outstanding child care with playful learning. We strive to provide a warm and loving environment that values each child and fosters an inquisitive mindset. All rooted in Jewish values. Read more about our approach and goals below.
Our Approach
Every day at the ELC, our children experience the joy of discovery, the exhilaration of active play, the adventure of self-expression, and the security of an away-from-home relationship with warm, intentional, and engaging staff. They engage in activities and relationships that encourage their own unique personalities, and which enable them to view the world with a “can-do” attitude.
All children develop along a continuum, at individual times, and have individual interests and needs. We also know that children learn best through intentional and structured play and by being fully involved in their learning. Therefore, our educators plan learning activities and centers based on those inputs. Curriculum also evolves from staff discussion, workshops, training about best practice and current trends, and common planning around the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) Learning Standards and Curriculum Guidelines.
As we are a Jewish Community Center ELC, our children also learn about Jewish values, culture, holidays, and traditions. We do this through stories, songs, craft projects, communal celebrations, and delicious holiday and seasonal foods.
Our Goals
Ultimately, our goals are:
- to create a warm and loving atmosphere where each child’s uniqueness and expression is valued
- to provide an engaging, intentional, Judaic experience that allows children to learn through play
- to enable children to develop skills that serve them now and in their futures, and
- to live our core values of inclusion, trust, professionalism, excellence, and community building

Hear from ELC Parents:
We chose the ELC as we felt most comfortable with the staff […], the curriculum, the diversity and inclusion, programing, facility and convenience. We felt like M received the preparation he needed going into public kindergarten in Longmeadow.
